Wow, been a while since I've uploaded something. Then again, this is really about the only illustration-ish piece I've done lately... and I did it in 3 hours! That's pretty much a record for me. Anyway, tried VERY hard to keep my sketch and my inking/coloring very loose. I'm rather surprised at the outcome.

I also layered on a lot of textures and whatnot, most of which I got from Mayang's stock images. I'm starting to really appreciate texture... it's nice.

Hey, good job! Sometimes loose and scribbly has its own gritty and organic appeal, and I think you found it. Nice color scheme too.

I'm a very slow perfectionist... so working quickly is kind of a new thing. Though, come to think of it, most of the time was used messing with the layers and getting the overall look right. ^^;;

I like the red lines drawn overtop of the darker outlines, and the eraser scribbles in the coloring of the phoenix. And the overall composition, too - adds to the calligraphic feel.

What kind of pen did you ink with?
